Ten Asanas to Master in YTT Course

For new students hoping to learn Yoga in India, there are many confusing options. The research takes a lot of time and the suggestion varies with different teachers and Yoga types. In this article, we suggest ten Yoga poses a student must master in the Yoga Teacher Training Course.

    Tadasana (Mountain Pose)
  1. Tadasana (Mountain Pose): Tadasana is the beginning pose for all standing asanas. Therefore, mastering it is crucial. It involves all the major muscles of the body and aims to stretch the limb muscles in order to regulate blood flow. The mountain pose helps in relieving back pain, shoulder pain, and correcting posture.
  2. Vrikshasana (Tree Pose)
  3. Vrikshasana (Tree Pose): The Tree Pose or Vrikshasana is credited to cure chronic back pain and spinal deformity. Regular practice strengthens the muscles of the inner thighs and calves. It also improves balance and replenishes oxygen to the blood. Practicing this asana correctly takes practice and proper guidance.
  4. Trikonasana (Triangle Pose)
  5. Trikonasana (Triangle Pose): Trikonasana or Triangle Pose stretches the legs and the torso, it mobilizes the hips and ensures regular deep breathing. Regular practice has shown an increase in stamina and endurance. It is practiced by sport players and marathon runners. Mastering this asana ensures that the learner has learnt to balance the weight of the body and direct it properly while changing inclination.

  7. Naukasana (Boat Pose): Naukasana or Boat Pose tightens the abdominal muscles thus, fighting accumulation of fat around stomach and waist region. It also increases the strength of the shoulder and arm muscles. Regular practice ensures that the student is capable of maintaining and balancing the complete weight of the body on a particular point of the body. It increases balance and posture of the body.
  8. Bhujangasana (Cobra Pose)
  9. Bhujangasana (Cobra Pose): The Cobra Pose is a highly acclaimed pose since it tones the lower back, tightens the thighs, and firms the abs. It helps exercise the lower half of the body and keep the spinal cord flexible. It also improves the lung capacity and improves immunity. This pose takes time to master since the extent has to be checked by the instructor.

  11. Chaturanga Dandasana: This pose is extremely difficult to master since alignment is really difficult to achieve without an instructor. Students usually rush this pose but regular practice of this pose in the wrong way may lead to spinal injury. But since it's the basic pose of Vinayasa Yoga it is important to master it. Learners should take a focussed and attentive lesson in practicing this asana.
  12. Parivrtta Utkatasana
  13. Parivrtta Utkatasana: One of the difficult poses is Parivrtta Utkatasana or the Chair Pose. It is important since it teaches the best way to twist the body and thus increase flexibility. Repeated practice increases balance power, blood flow, and concentration. It is a basic pose that a learner must aim to master.
  14. Sirsasana (Head Stand Pose)
  15. Sirsasana (Head Stand Pose): Sirsasana or the Head Stand Pose is extremely popular and extremely difficult. It requires an experienced trainer who can suggest you the best way to master this pose. Sirsasana is best for inverting blood flow and increasing balance and correcting posture. Learners should definitely aim to master this asana with the help of a trainer aince it can't be practiced alone without assistance.
  16. Ustrasana (Camel Pose)
  17. Ustrasana (Camel Pose): It is commonly accepted as one of the asanas that form the basics of Yoga practice. Camel Pose relieves pain fron spondilytis, neck pain, back ache, and arm pain. It strengthens the upper body and improves air supply to the lungs. People suffering from breathing disorders have benefited from this asana.
  18. Viparita Karani
  19. Viparita Karani: This pose is a boon for insomniacs. It cures pain in lower back, tones the leg muscles, firms buttocks and cures back pain. Regular practice can make the student more prepared for advanced level of Yoga asanas.
